The Rangers skipper was stretchered from the pitch forty minutes into the Republic of Ireland's 0-0 draw against Montenegro on Wednesday night and results of a scan on his injury have shown he has Anterior Cruciate Ligament damage.

Rowlands will now require surgery and will miss the remainder of the Championship campaign.

"Martin's been to see the specialist and the results of the scan unfortunately revealed that he's sustained another Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury," Rangers' head physio Paul Hunter told the club's official website.

"He's pencilled in for an operation on Monday."
