Santos Signing

Santos (33) was released by Ipswich Town last week after being told he did not figure in manager Joe Royle's plans for the new season, and although he was squeezed out of Portman Road, there was plenty of space for the tough tackling defender at Rangers.

The dotted line is yet to be signed as first the Marseille-born player must complete a successful medical on Monday before confirming the transfer.

Should he pass, which is more than likely, the former Tranmere, Grimsby and Sheffield United player is set to make his Superhoops debut at Bristol Rovers on Tuesday evening.

The news comes as a welcome boost for Ian Holloway after he was snubbed earlier today by Fulham boss Chris Coleman over a deal to sign Dean Leacock on a season-long loan.

Ollie has been working around the clock trying to recruit defenders following the departures of Clarke Carlisle, Steve Palmer and Maz Ifura.

Trialists Serge Branco, Jon Olaf Hjelde and Lewis Hamilton have all been offered a second chance to earn a permanent contract with the R's. All three are expected to figure at the Memorial Stadium at some time as Ollie continues to strengthen the pack ahead of August 7th.

Speaking on the signing of Georges Santos to the official website, he said:

"He's a player I've had my eye on for a while. I wanted to bring him in last year, but Ipswich wouldn't let him go.

"He plays the way I want, he's quick, a great communicator and I'm looking forward to working with him."

Tune in to QPR MAD when the Santos signing should be confirmed.
