R's storm into 3rd Round

Martin Rowlands’ double strike secured a third round spot in the Carling Cup for QPR sending a shocked Sheffield United side out after a 2-0 home defeat.

Rowlands took the plaudits as his all round performance was good enough for the R’s to progress to the next round. He scored two goals in the first half, which was good enough to dump Sheffield (last year’s semi-finalists) out.

It was a sweet day for Rangers as they recorded their first win against a higher division side in a cup match for over 20 years and set’s up a 3rd round tie against the possibility of Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United.

R’s fans will be hoping for a mouth-watering clash against their big spending neighbours now Chelski have entered. Sides competing in Europe this season have only just entered, despite the bulk of the Premiership already entered (Fulham and Birmingham the only casualties).

Rangers lined up with Terrell Forbes at centre-back partnering Danny Shittu as Arthur Gnohere was not given permission to play. Forbes put in a steady performance as the defence commanded the Sheffield attack. This move saw Steve Palmer dropping to the subs bench, it was the first time he hadn’t started in 103 games after 102 consecutive matches.

It was a complete team performance from the R’s and it made for extra special viewing as it came away from home at Bramall Lane.

Let’s hope now that we get a big draw when the next round is decided and we go from strength to strength
