Rowlands Agrees New Deal

Last season’s Player of the Season Martin Rowlands has committed his future to QPR by agreeing a new three year contract that ties him to Loftus Road until the summer of 2007.

Rowlands joined Rangers on a Bosman free transfer from rivals Brentford last summer, and after a marvellous season at W12, Ian Holloway moved early to reward him with a brand new contract despite the former Bee having a year left to run on his current deal.

His new deal is welcome news for Holloway and, of course, the player himself. The 25-year-old midfielder was the Club's outstanding player last season and he had attracted considerable interest away from Loftus Road.

But this deal ensures that Rowly stays put. He couldn't be happier to commit himself to Queens Park Rangers and can't wait for the new season to get underway.

He said: "I'm delighted. Now I've got to get my head down, get in to pre-season training and get prepared for the Championship season. It's a big commitment from both sides - from me and the Club.

"It's a different game (in the Coca Cola Championship) and there are better players at this level. But I'll be doing the same things and hopefully I can do as well as I did last season.

"There's a bit more football played in this division and we can adapt to that - we've got good players. And hopefully we can rediscover the form that we showed when we played Sheffield United."

Rowly made 45 appearances in blue and white hoops last term and a further three in green after winning his first full international caps with the Republic of Ireland. He hit an impressive 12 goals for the R’s and round his marvellous season of by romping home as the Rangers Player of the Season for 2003-2004.

QPR MAD would like to congratulate Martin on a superb season and hope to see more of the same once the Championship gets under way on August 7th at Loftus Road against Rotherham United.
