Rangers were once again expected to mount a promotion push this term but are currently floundering in 14th after more managerial turmoil and a run of one win in 11.
But fans' favourite Ainsworth, who this week left Loftus Road after six-and-a-half years to join Wycombe, insists current boss Mick Harford has the quality in his squad to arrest their slide.
"I wish Mick all the best, he's a great guy and they're having a bad time on the pitch at the moment," he said.
"But it's players who are ultimately responsible and I'm sure they'll turn it around."
