Last updated : 29 June 2005 By Mark O' Haire

Speaking to the official website Doherty said:

“I’ve known of QPR’s interest for a while.

“Ian Holloway tried to bring me here on loan last season, but for one reason or another it didn’t happen.

“But I’m here now and delighted to sign.

“It’s great to be wanted. I know Ian Holloway wanted me and I’ve come here to play for a team who have ambitions to play in the Premiership.

“I’m stepping up from League 1 and have no doubts about my ability to play at this level and higher. Ian Holloway is ambitious and so am I.”

Ollie was obviously delighted with the signing after a long chase, which ended today. Also speaking to the official website, he said:

“He’s a player I’ve admired for some time now.

“He’s an energetic midfielder, a great passer of the ball and he will add great quality to our midfield areas.

“I wanted to ensure we took a stronger squad into next season and that we continue to improve and the addition of a player like Tommy shows that we’re definitely heading in the right direction.

Rangers returned from pre-season training this week at there new training ground in Harlington with Doherty joining in today for his first session, and Ollie is happy with what he’s seen from his squad so far.

“The player’s are looking fit and are all excited about the new season.

“We tested their fitness on Monday and every single one of them has passed, which is great. It means we can now get the balls out and start playing football.

“There are a number of players who have been with me for a while now and they know what fitness levels I expect from them.

“But even the younger ones have put in the right kind of effort over the summer and I’m very pleased.”
