Formal Bid Rejected

On Monday it was announced that Rangers were on the verge of signing former loan keeper Lee Camp on a permanent deal. Although Rangers have made no official comment on the Camp deal, Derby have spoken out on a few occasions.

First they distanced themselves from the speculation before making it clear Camp was still a major part of their plans despite being second choice goalkeeper.

The 19-year old also said (not officially) that he "knew nothing" about the approach from Rangers. But lastnight saw what maybe the truth finally come out.

The Derby County official website has said that a formal bid from Rangers had been rejected. It was Director of Football Murdo Mackay again speaking, but he did emphasise that the "bid didn't meet our (Derby's) valuation of the player".

Whether he was hinting that the Ram's will listen to more offers or whether he was just agreeing every player has their price we don't know. Rangers are already in a poor financial state and cannot afford to splash the cash around, so we'll have to see if a new bid comes Derby's way.

On the offer, Mackay said:

"After speaking to George Burley I recommended to the board that we reject the offer.

"The bid doesn't meet our valuation of the player. In addition the timing is difficult because our new goalkeeping coach Mal Webster - who we believe is one of the best in the country - has only had a couple of weeks to assess the ability of our three main keepers."

Any deal is thought to include a huge sell-on clause, in the hope that County could net a big sum should Rangers sell the former England youth international in a few years time.
