Derby: No Approach For Camp

Last updated : 19 July 2004 By Mark O' Haire
The Rams have revealed no formal contact has been made by Rangers in respect of an approach for teenage goalkeeper Lee Camp.

Camp played 90 minutes for County in Saturrday's 15-0 victory in Halden and impressed on loan with the Superhoops at the end of the last season. There has been wide speculation from a number of media sources that the two clubs had agreed a deal and all was left was for Camp to agree terms and undergo a medical at Loftus Road.

Those reports (such as the one on QPR MAD) now seem to be plain speculation, unless the Rams are trying to cover up the dragged out transfer. Ian Holloway first made an approach for the keeper back in early June only to be turned away. Whatever is going on between the two sets of boards is anyone's guess, but whether a deal is being hatched for the former England youth keeper to sign for the R's- it remains to be seen. It certainly looks a little odd for our Championship rivals to distance themselves from the reports at such an early stage.

Speaking to the official Derby County website, Director of Football at Pride Park Murdo Mackay said:
"We haven't had any formal contact, but it certainly wouldn't surprise us if QPR made an approach after his performances with them,".
