But Bircham insists talk of the title is premature, and is putting all thoughts of promotion firmly to the back of his mind.
He said: "I'm trying not to think about that day - I'd get too excited!
"It's brilliant to be top of the league. It's a great team and a great squad, and the manager's deserved his award.
"But we're not reading too much into it because there's a long way to go. We've got to try not to get too carried away."
