Wycombe were twice saved by the woodwork but might have beaten high-flying Rangers had substitute Gavin Holligan not missed a sitter in stoppage time.

The R's dominated but Holligan had the best chance of the game near the end when a defensive mix-up led to the ball dropping at his feet ten yards from goal. However, the striker shot wide with just goalkeeper Chris Day to beat.

Rangers had the better of the first half and Chairboys keeper Frank Talia had to produce saves to thwart Kevin Gallen and Marcus Bean.

But the home side looked fragile at the back at times and Darren Currie should have done better than shoot straight at Day after the Rangers stopper had punched the ball into his path.

Martin Rowlands went close to giving Rangers the lead two minutes after the interval with a 30-yard free-kick that smashed against the post.

The woodwork again denied Rangers when Gareth Ainsworth's header from Gino Padula's corner was pushed onto the post by Talia.

Wycombe defender Roger Johnson twice denied Paul Furlong with goal-line clearances - first keeping out his left-footed drive and then blocking the veteran forward's free-kick.

Rangers continued to press in the closing stages. Ainsworth stumbled into the box before seeing his shot saved by Talia, who was then grateful to see Kevin McLeod's cross-cum-shot flash across the face of his goal.

Holligan's miss let Rangers off the hook but Loftus Road boss Ian Holloway insisted his team deserved more than a point.

"On another day we would have scored two or three times, perhaps even more," he said.

"I am disappointed we didn't get the points I felt we deserved.

"A big cheer went up from the Wycombe end at the final whistle and that shows you how pleased they were with the point. It was a game I feel we should have won."
