Third Division Leyton Orient dumped London rivals QPR out of the Worthington Cup with a battling performance with strikes from Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Lee Thorpe and Gary Fletcher causing a major shock.

But it was Orient's teenage goalkeeper, Glenn Morris, making his first start of the season, who emerged as the hero with a last-gasp save from Rangers substitute Dennis Oli as the second division side almost stole a leveller.

After the game a delighted Orient manager Paul Brush said: "It was a good solid team performance. The lads wanted to battle and deserved to win - although we never looked comfortable we showed a collective desire to get something out of the game."

In a helter-skelter first half Rangers could have gone ahead after nine minutes when Andy Thomson's shot was brilliantly tipped away by Morris.

In the build-up Orient defender gave David McGhee was injured and could miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury.

Orient were forced into a reshuffle with Johnny Martin coming on and Carl Hutchings dropping into the defence.

But the reorganisation did not worry the home side who stormed into a two-goal lead and Hutchings turned in a five-star show.

Martin and Billy Jones both went close for Orient before the took the lead in the 33rd minute when Fletcher's shot was parried by Fraser Digby and the rebound fell to Campbell-Ryce whose first shot struck a post but he followed up to smash the rebound home.

Thomson hit a post at the other end before Orient scored a second on the stroke of half time when Thorpe headed home from close range after Martin hooked back a Campbell-Ryce cross.

Rangers cut the deficit after 71 minutes when Thomson slotted home a penalty after Martin and Matthew Joseph combined to foul Richard Langley but their comeback hopes were dashed when Fletcher scored his first goal of the season five minutes later when he fired home a cross from Thorpe.

Kevin Gallen gave Rangers new hope with an excellent strike from 20 yards after 89 minutes but it was too little too late to spare their Cup blushes
