Changes to Youth Setup

Last updated : 16 July 2004 By Mark O' Haire

Last season Rangers opted not to enter into the under 19 competition in favour of playing those good enough in the reserves to gain more experience. On the other hand the under 17’s had an outstanding season.

Finishing runners-up and just missing out on the title to Brighton by a point, scoring 88 goals in the process and only losing twice.

Des Bulpin and Joe Gallen will now be able to work with last season’s players for another year, something that will hopefully prove dividends in the future. Despite fielding players as young as fourteen and many of the squad barely sixteen it will be another learning curb as the youngsters bid to become full-time professionals at Loftus Road.

Rangers have been drawn in the South East Conference League alongside 8 other sides- Brentford, Brighton, Colchester, Gillingham, Leyton Orient, Portsmouth, Southend and Wycombe.

The sides will play both teams home and away then, based on league positions, the teams from each of the six regional conferences will split off into another league system called the Merit Division. The same system used in last years under 19's competition.
