"It was never ever a penalty kick.

"20,000 plus Reading fans screamed for it and the referee gave them exactly what they wanted.

Waddock was speaking after seeing an extremely hard penalty given against Richard Langley.

"I don't know how Richard could have got out of the way, but that's typical of our luck over the past five or six weeks."

"We decided to have a go at Reading and see how they coped with us. It will have been a good experience for our younger players.

"I am starting to plan for next season now. Somebody has to do the planning but you will have to ask the chairman if I will be the manager."

Steve Coppell

(speaking after seeing his side presented with the Championship trophy and after breaking the division's points record)

"You spend your life in football working for moments like this.

"It's true we fell one short of achieving 100 goals for the season but that's not really going to spoil my break when I am sitting on the beach and sinking a few beers.

"What I will reflect on is collecting the trophy on the pitch in front of the home fans. That really topped the season off."
