Sturridge, 31, joins from Wolves on a free transfer and has signed a contract until the end of next season.

He is likely to be among the substitutes at Millmoor and his arrival paves the way for Jamie Cureton to go to Brentford, who have expressed an interest in signing him.

Meanwhile, Aaron Brown is set to leave the club on a month's loan.

The midfielder, who this week signed a contract having recovered from a broken leg, is still well short of match fitness.

Gino Padula has also been earmarked for a possible loan move and teenage goalkeeper Jake Cole joined Farnborough on loan earlier this week.
