Sousa sacked after conversation with supporter?

Another day, another manager spat out of football's most entertaining circus.

As speculation surrounding Sousa's sacking intensified last night, the club released the following statement:

"It came to the club's attention that Mr. Sousa had, without authority, divulged highly confidential and sensitive information. The club, with legal advice, responded in this way to protect its position."

"Player/coach Gareth Ainsworth will take caretaker charge on a temporary basis, from now until the end of the season."

The board has yet to disclose details of the leak, which is alleged to relate to a conversation that Sousa had with a supporter, following last week's Championship fixture against Crystal Palace.

Details of the conversation, said to involve criticism of first-team players, were then leaked on 'wearetherangersboys.com', but later removed. As news got back to the club, the fall-out that ensued made Sousa's position at the club untenable.

The club has yet to confirm or deny these suggestions, but Sousa has denied all allegations made against him.

The latest dismissal at Loftus Road followed an admission by Sousa last week that he had no say in Dexter Blackstock's loan move to Nottingham Forest.

Iain Dowie had parted company with the club earlier in the season because of the board's interference with first-team affairs, and it seems that whoever takes over now can expect more of the same.

It will surely prove difficult to find a manager good enough to lead the club into the Premiership, who will be happy to work with a meddling board - regardless of how much money he gets paid.

Having witnessed the life being sucked out of this club over the past 18 months, the only glimmer of hope I find as a supporter comes from Upton Park.

After Alan Curbishley's departure last year, because of interference from the board, Gianfranco Zola has got them winning more often than not and playing attractive free-flowing football. The only problem now is that finding someone who can do the same at Rangers will be even more difficult.
