The friendly international drew a crowd of over 6,000 to west London, with Shittu making an appearance as sub for the final 20 minutes.

Shittu was watched for only the first time by Nigeria coach Festus Onigbinde in last Saturday's match against Peterborough, and must now have a great chance of going to the World Cup finals — a thought that had barely crossed his mind only a few days ago.

"To be honest, I hadn't really thought about the World Cup until Monday morning when Kanu and Celestine Babayaro joined the squad. When you see players like that walk through the door you realise that this is the real thing" he said.

"It's like being in a dreamworld at the minute. I am so excited. In terms of football it's been a great year for me. I've joined QPR and I love everything about the place and now I have played for my country. I don't know if it can get any better."

A place in Nigeria's 23-man World Cup squad certainly would, and who knows, perhaps the opportunity to thwart England's progession in the competition...
