Rangers News Update

Last updated : 05 July 2009 By Liam Osborne

At last, some transfer activity going on at Queens Park Rangers! Although it's probably not the sort of activity rangers' fans would have expected after weeks of disappointment when tuning into Sky Sports news in the hope that we might finally make a decent summer signing. No, instead of this, rangers have announced that both Lee Camp and Damien Delaney have left the club.

Damien Delaney was first to jump ship when his projected move to Championship rivals Ipswich Town was finally completed on Thursday. The Irish defender has put pen to paper on a two-year-deal at Portman Road, with the fee rumoured to be in the region of £700,000. Ipswich manager Roy Keane has been an admirer of his fellow Irishman for some time now, however it seems to be a good bit of business from a ranger’s perspective, considering the left back's average form last season.

The following day it was goalkeeper Lee Camp's turn to head out the exit door at Loftus road, with Nottingham Forest securing his services for an undisclosed fee. Camp has signed a four-year-contract with the club with whom he spent a successful loan period last season. From my point of view, I am very sad to see Camp leave the club. In my opinion he has been an excellent servant to this football club, and I am sure many of you will agree that his treatment after the arrival of Radek Cerny last summer was unjust to say the least. He is one of the finest goalkeepers in the Championship and I wish him all the best at his new club.

However, Camp and Delaney may not be the last faces to be heading out of Loftus Road this summer. Rumours have surfaced this week which speculate that Rangers' play-maker Akos Buzsaky is a target of Premier League side Stoke City. So far there have been no figures mentioned, however I imagine it would take a lot more money than Stoke would want to part with in order to sign the Hungarian International. It seems unlikely that these rumours should have any substance, and even if Stoke were serious about signing Buzsaky, I doubt very much Jim Magilton would allow arguably the best attacking midfielder in the Championship to leave the club.

In other news, it was announced this week that rangers will be jetting off to Slovenia on Monday 13th July for a two-match tour. Opponents will be NK Celje and NK Karlovac. The tour should prove to be beneficial to rangers, as it will allow the team to bond not only with fellow players, but with the new management team also. Let’s hope that we see a few new faces coming to the club over the next few weeks, as I think you'll all agree the wait for a new striker is getting tedious.
