RANGERS HOLD BACK ON WISE MOVE

Ian Holloway had expressed a strong interest in the former Millwall player/ manager and had made contact with the player’s representatives about a short-term move to Rangers- the club Wise supported as a boy.

However, despite interest from relegated Southampton, Holloway has decided against a deal following the Football League’s announcement over the new transfer deadline day.

The League have said following discussions with FIFA that Football League club’s may now be able to make loan signing’s during the new transfer window which comes into place this season at the end of August. This has given Ollie a totally different perspective.

Speaking to the Willesden & Brent Times he said:

"I thought of Dennis Wise purely because of the window. It's a situation that would have been totally new and I wondered where I could get that kind of quality player to add to my options in midfield.

"Now it looks like there isn't going to be a full window and that'll be a huge relief for all of us.

"I've got a lot of respect for Dennis Wise, I know what he's like as a trainer and a player and he understood that he'd get other opportunities, but he was still keen to talk to me.

"Probably nothing's going to happen, but if he's still at a loose end come the start of the season, who knows?

"I need another option in midfield, maybe two and there are some possibilities that are quite exciting if we can make them happen."

After bolstering the defence with the signing of Chesterfield captain Ian Evatt and with Danny Shittu close to agreeing a new three-year contract, Ollie revealed he flew out to Denmark on Wednesday to watch a defensive target in action against Albania.

Speaking on the signing of Evatt he said:

"I nearly took him to Bristol Rovers a few years ago and he's been improving a lot since then.
"He's very adept in several positions and can also play a Claude Makelele holding role in midfield. He's the right kind of character and gives us good options and better choices."
