DOHERTY SIGNING FOR RANGERS

Last updated : 29 June 2005 By Mark O' Haire

Ian Holloway has been a long-standing admirer of the Robins’ player and has twice been rejected in moves for the Northern Ireland international, but now the League 1 side have agreed to sell for an undisclosed fee (believed to be around £80,000, rising to £200,000 on appearances).

Doherty will complete the signing later today and sign a three-year contract at Loftus Road, adding to the summer’s signing’s of Ian Evatt, Stefan Moore and Simon Royce.

He made 226 appearances at Ashton Gate, scoring 9 goals and was last season’s captain. He play’s in the centre of midfield and is similar to the style of Marc Bircham. He made his international debut in 2003 against Italy and lined up for Northern Ireland against England in last season’s World Cup qualifying match in Manchester.

QPR MAD will bring you up to date with all the latest news including Doherty’s comments on signing for Rangers as soon as we hear it!
