Davies/Doherty deals in the balance

But Davies, who recently rejected a transfer to Loftus Road, could be on his way to West Ham.

Hammers boss Alan Pardew wants to take the defender on loan and made an approach to Middlesbrough on Thursday.

Rangers have still not given up hope of signing Davies permanently but a loan deal pushed through so he can play against Watford this weekend looks the more likely option - if he chooses west over east London.

Doherty may also play in the Watford game if his signing is completed on Friday.

Ian Holloway has been chasing the Northern Ireland midfielder for some time and had an offer for him rejected last month.

But an agreement that will see Doherty join on loan with a view to a permanent move is now close.
