Davies: We had no option

Chief Executive David Davies has spoken about his reluctant acceptance of Kenny Jackett's decision to leave the Club.

Jackett departed on Monday to take up the manager's job at Swansea City after three years at Loftus Road.

And speaking in this weekend's matchday programme Davies admitted that there was nothing the Club could do to prevent him from leaving for South Wales.

He said: "Kenny is a man of honour and made no bones about his ambition to be a number one at a club.

"At regular periods he made attempts to secure first team manager positions and in the Board's mind it was only a matter of time before he was granted his wish by a team in the Football League.

"Kenny had made it clear, no matter how long his assistant manager contract was, that he always wanted to take a manager's role. Even a 10-year deal would not have been sufficient."

Davies also admitted that the timing was not perfect, but that once again, the Club were loathe to stand in Kenny's way.

He said: "Swansea made it clear that they were not prepared to pay compensation or wait until the end of the season as they wanted their manager to assess the current squad and recommend changes for the Summer.

"The Board recognised Kenny's ambition and out of respect to him we acknowledged that turning his request down would be denying Kenny the opportunity to manage.

"We would have a very dissillusioned employee and that is the last thing we needed in the run-in to what is going to be a tight finish to the season."
