Rangers are then set to take Davies back for a second loan spell and are also talking to Boro about signing him permanently.

Boro boss Steve McClaren had made it clear he wanted Davies to return to the Riverside Stadium when his month at Rangers finishes this weekend.

But after Ian Holloway pleaded with him to allow the 20-year-old to stay and Boro defender Chris Riggott resumed training following an injury, McClaren agreed to extend his loan period.

But McClaren first wants him back for his side's European clash, after which Davies is expected to return to QPR.

And Rangers will try to buy the promising centre-back, who has impressed since arriving in west London.

McClaren rates Davies highly but cannot offer him regular first-team football, and the player himself is keen to stay at Loftus Road.
