The 28-year-old is currently in West London and will put pen to paper on an initial 18-month deal subject to a medical and international clearance.
Despite late competition from Peterborough United, negotiations with his current club Busan Icons have been completed and a nominal fee will be paid to the South Korean outfit.
The fee negotiated will be paid courtesy of contributions from the Supporters fund 'Our QPR'.
Ian Holloway has long since been an admirer of the Bristol-born forward, dating back to Cureton's spell under his management at the Memorial Stadium.
Holloway attempted to lure him to Loftus Road at the beginning of the season, but could not come close to matching the deal offered by Busan.
Nevertheless the Rangers boss stayed in touch with his former player and when it became apparent that Cureton was seeking an early return to England, negotiations began.
For long periods it appeared that Busan's demands for a considerable fee would scupper the deal, but now a settlement has been reached and Chaiman Nick Blackburn is thrilled.
He said: "We're absolutely delighted to be signing a player of Jamie's quality and one we have been trailing for some time.
"The deal wouldn't have been possible without the efforts and contributions of Our QPR and today's events demonstrate the special bond that exists between the Club and its supporters. I am a very proud man today."
Cureton's record in this country confirms his ability as a goalscorer. He made 13 Premiership starts for Norwich City and scored six times before heading to his home-town team.
At Rovers he scored 78 goals in four seasons and in 2000 signed for Reading where he carried on banging in the goals.
He notched 55 in three seasons, helping the Royals to promotion from Division Two and in to the First Division Play-Offs last season.
Now the player that Ian Holloway has coveted for some time will hook up with his former manager.
A week that started with the upsetting news of Dan Shittu's long-term injury looks to be ending with the arrival of a proven goalscorer to bolster Rangers' promotion challenge.
