The club are heavily in debt and forever pushing back deadlines with creditors to avoid going into administration and so question marks must be raised just how they will be given permission to go through with the signing.
QPR assistant manager Kenny Jackett told skysports.com that he was unaware of the Premiership strugglers' interest, but said Carlisle would do a great job if he were to move on to Elland Road.
"Nothing surprises me in football," opined Jackett.
"If Clarke did go he would do a great job. But obviously, I haven't heard of Leeds' interest and I hope he stays."
Leeds players have just agreed a 20 percent wage deferral to help the club raise the necessary £5 million to stave off the creditors, and The R's are thought to be asking around £200,000 for their man.
The stopper is out of contract in the summer and returned to training with the Second Division outfit late last year after undergoing treatment for alcohol problems.
