Carlisle Speaks Out

The 24-year old defender moved to Leeds officially on July 1st to leave behind newly promoted Rangers, who stood by the Blackpool born man through thick and thin.

Carlisle checked into rehab in January after being diagnosed with alcohol addiction, the club stood by the defender to help him get through a tough time and offered a new contract. As Carlisle's says it was terribly tough to turn down but he had his family to think about.

He even claims that the Leeds offer "wasn't the best". Hopefully after reading his comment, R's fans will get behind the player and wsh him luck in his Leeds career.

Here's what he said:

"I did see my move created a bit of an outcry. It disappointed me a little because I had explained my circumstances to them and stated my intentions for a while.

"It is disappointing to leave a club like that, the fans were fantastic to me and I will always appreciate what they did for me. I thanked them on numerous occassions and I will thank them again, but for me personally I wanted and needed to be back up north with my family.

"I was out for near on 20 months with the injury and then two more months at the clinic but the staff, board, players and fans there were fantastic towards me.

"The chance of a move to Leeds came up and I thought I would have been a fool to refuse it. It is the perfect move for me and I am just sorry I had to leave those good fans behind.

"I am disappointed there has been a sour tint on me leaving, but this is the way football is, players move on for their families and hopefully their careers and I feel this is right for me.

"It was a similar situation to when players go abroad and maybe leave their families over here, and in my case it was moving away from my daughter that caused the problem because she lives with her mum (in Leeds).

"The first couple of years were not too bad because she could come and stay because she wasn't at school, but last year she started school and I very rarely got to see her throughout the year and it wasn't good. I didn't enjoy it but now I am back up north I can go and see her every week and it's what I wanted for my family.

"It was something I had to talk through with my partner and see what was best for me.

"Financially it wasn't the best offer I had received but it fulfilled all the other criteria, it meant I could be close to my daughter again and also the status of the club is just unbelievable. The facilities are first class and there's a very good bunch of players here.

"Then there's the challenge of this forthcoming season. The first challenge is to get into the team and then the challenge to take the team where it belongs.

"I just can't wait to impose myself on this situation."
