AMBITIOUS MOORE SIGNS

Rangers have today confirmed the signing of Aston Villa striker Stefan Moore on a free transfer.

The 21-year old striker has signed a three-year deal at Loftus Road after making 28 appearances at Villa Park where he came up through the ranks as a promising youngster.

Despite still having a season left to run on his three and a half year deal with Villa, Moore asked David O’Leary if he could speak to Rangers about a possible move to West London.

After rejecting the approaches of a few other Championship club’s, O’Leary accepted the striker’s demands to speak to the R’s and Ian Holloway has this morning finalised a deal for the player.

O’Leary had demanded a fee in the region of £200,000 for the player but the Villa board stepped in after Rangers refused to pay.

After two weeks of negotiations a deal has finally been struck and as you can imagine, Ian Holloway was obviously delighted.

Speaking to the official website, Ollie said:

“He’s a centre-forward with a fantastic brain and great ability. What he needs to do is get a few games under his belt and when he does he’ll be flying.

“He’s played and scored in the Premiership with Aston Villa and we’re looking to get him back where he started.

“I don’t have any specific plans set in stone for who he’ll be partnering up front but what I do see is some fantastic forwards on my books that will now give us all sorts of options.

“What we need is a squad good enough to get us through the season.

“I feel Stefan hasn’t had a fair crack at the whip as he’s had a few niggling injuries but I’m hoping he’ll become a sellable asset that I won’t want to sell.

“He’s the sort of player that will get us back into the Premiership because that’s where we want to be and that’s where he deserves to be.”

Moore also spoke to the official website, stating his reason’s for signing.

“The ambition here matches mine, I want to play in the Premiership- I don’t want to be playing in the Championship for the rest of my days and I think this is a club that can make that jump.

“Three are some great things going on here at the moment, I’ve hear all about the new training ground and I can’t wait to see it.

“There isn’t one particular player who I would say I’m similar to- I like to take different parts of everyone’s game and add it to mine.

“It’s not everyday that you play football in Ibiza, I wouldn’t have thought the weather will be too hot to play in as I’ve played in hot climates before.

“It will be a great opportunity to meet my new team mates. For some reason I don’t think my path has crossed with any of the current lads.

“It’s not often you can say that but for some reason I have never met any of my new team mates.

“I’m looking forward to linking up with Paul Furlong and Dean Sturridge and I can’t wait to learn from them.

Ian Holloway also spoke for the first time about Rangers’ other new summer signing- Ian Evatt.

Evatt was signed for £200,000 from Chesterfield where he was captain last season. Ollie explained his reasons for signing the former Derby defender.

“He’s a big strong monster. He can play anywhere along the back line and also in midfield.

“His main position is centre-half but he will be a great asset in that he’ll be able to help out all over the place if need be.

“The more positions you can play the better chance you have of making it and he’s going to be a very valuable player for us.”
