Ainsworth chases starting spot

Winger Gareth Ainsworth is hoping for a return to the QPR starting line-up.

Ainsworth impressed as a second-half substitute at Swindon on Saturday.

And with Marc Bircham about to serve a suspension, the former Wimbledon wide-man is in line to start against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

"It's a really big game and it would be nice to start," Ainsworth told BBC Sport.

"The emphasis here is very much on it being a squad game though.

"You can never take anything for granted, more so at this club than at any other club I've been at.

"In the Premiership with Wimbledon if I was fit, I played. But here there's such a strong squad and so many good players, you have to wait and see."

Ainsworth, who was plagued by injuries prior to his summer move to Loftus Road, made a stunning start to his Rangers career and became an instant crowd favourite.

He has since been in and out of the starting 11.

"I've had a couple of knocks here and there," he explained.

"The thing is that I had about two years wiped out by injury, which is quite frightening when you think about it.

"I've been getting back into the swing of being involved week in, week out and I've never been happier at a club.

"We're top of the table, are having a good season and with hard work we can stay up there."
