You couldn’t fail to be impressed by his performance against Chelsea — he reminded me so much of Alan Hansen. If he turns out half as good, we’ll have some player on our hands. Still, one decent game does not make a career, and it was only a friendly (yawn).

"I like English football. I like physical football. I am a physical player" declared Ben-Askar. "I am very happy with Queens Park Rangers. I love the people here. This was a big club and it is still a big club. There is a good team here. There are good players and a very good manager."

Ian Holloway declared, "He's a quality player. When he played against Chelsea the guy was absolutely fantastic. He agreed personal terms before the weekend but what we didn't want was anyone coming in and taking him away from us."

Kenny Jackett added, "It's an excellent signing for Queens Park Rangers. I've been so impressed with him, not just in action but down on the training ground as well. We've got him, he's going to sign, and we're very pleased indeed."

Ben Askar, who has two years left on his contract with French club Laval, has been told he is surplus to requirements by Laval because of a poor disciplinary record.
